Saturday’s Powerball drawing ended a 42-draw streak with two players hitting the $1.787 billion jackpot. Learn where the tickets were sold, the prize options, and how other players won millions.

Winning tickets for Saturday night’s nearly $1.8 billion Powerball jackpot were sold in Missouri and Texas, the Multi-State Lottery Association (MUSL) confirmed. The two lucky players will split a final prize of $1.787 billion, the second-largest U.S. lottery jackpot in history.

The winning numbers were 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball 17. The Power Play multiplier was 2.

Where the Winners Bought Their Tickets

According to the Texas Lottery, one winning ticket was sold at a Big’s convenience store in Fredericksburg, about 70 miles northwest of San Antonio. Missouri Lottery officials have not yet disclosed the exact location of their winning ticket sale.

Both players now face a monumental decision: whether to receive an annuitized prize of $893.5 million paid out over the next 30 years or take the lump sum of $410.3 million, both figures before taxes.

Ending a Jackpot Drought

Saturday’s historic win closes the book on a streak of 42 consecutive drawings without a jackpot winner, a run dating back to May 31. During that stretch, the prize ballooned from its reset of $20 million to almost $1.8 billion, drawing national attention and long ticket lines from coast to coast.

“With final ticket sales, the Powerball jackpot came in at $1.787 billion, making it the second-largest U.S. lottery jackpot ever won,” MUSL said in a release.

Other Big Winners

The jackpot wasn’t the only headline of the night. Players across the country scored millions in secondary prizes.

  • Two tickets, one in Kansas and one in Texas, each matched five numbers plus the Power Play to win $2 million.
  • Another 18 tickets sold across 13 states matched all five white balls, earning $1 million each.
  • Millions of smaller prizes, ranging from $4 to $50,000, were also awarded.

The overall odds of a player winning any Powerball cash prize are 1 in 24.9, and the official odds of winning the jackpot stand at a daunting 1 in 292.2 million.

Powerball’s Impact

Tickets cost $2 per play and are sold in 45 states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. More than half of the proceeds from each sale remain in that state where the ticket was purchased, funding public programs and services. Since its first drawing in 1992, Powerball has generated more than $36 billion for good causes nationwide.

Matt Strawn, Powerball Product Group chair and CEO of the Iowa Lottery, praised the milestone:

“Congratulations to our newest Powerball jackpot winners and the Missouri Lottery and Texas Lottery for selling the winning tickets. Each $2 ticket sold during this run gave players a chance at history while supporting their communities, and that’s worth celebrating.”

Ranking Among the Biggest

Saturday’s win joins a short list of U.S. lottery jackpots that have crossed the billion-dollar threshold. The current top five:

  1. $2.04 billion – Nov. 7, 2022 (California)
  2. $1.787 billion – Sept. 6, 2025 (Missouri, Texas)
  3. $1.765 billion – Oct. 11, 2023 (California)
  4. $1.586 billion – Jan. 13, 2016 (California, Florida, Tennessee)
  5. $1.326 billion – Apr. 6, 2024 (Oregon)

What Happens Next

The identities of these two billion-dollar jackpot winners is still unknown as of today (September 9, 2025.) It could be weeks or even months before either comes forward. Claim deadlines will usually vary by state, ranging from 180 days to one year. Missouri requires disclosure of winners’ names, while Texas law offers some privacy protections.

Meanwhile, the Powerball jackpot resets now to $20 million for Monday’s drawing, and ticket sales are already underway.

Why It Captivates So Many

For most, the billion-dollar dream is a ticket to possibility. Even with astronomical odds, Saturday’s drawing drew millions to gas stations and grocery stores throughout the country. Two winners now share the ultimate prize, and countless others walk away with stories, smaller checks, and maybe renewed hope for the next draw.
