See what Edwin Castro’s up to these days after winning the record-breaking Powerball jackpot worth $2 billion.

After the high-profile headlines and photo ops with big checks, what happens to Powerball winners? Do you ever wonder what comes next for those record-breaking Powerball winners? More specifically, can you imagine what Edwin Castro’s doing these days? Castro won the high-profile, record Powerball jackpot of $2 billion. And he was recently spotted around town with a pretty big smile on his face.

The Largest Powerball Jackpot of All Time

It was last November when the Powerball jackpot rolled over to its largest amount ever - $2.04 billion. And as millions of hopeful Powerball players purchased their tickets, only one man would be deemed the luckiest of all. Edwin Castro bought his Powerball ticket at Joe’s Service Center just ahead of the November 8th Powerball drawing. He then came forward and was verified as the lone winner. Castro claimed his prize in February but chose not to appear publicly. He did, however, acknowledge to the media that he was “shocked and ecstatic” about the prize.

About Edwin Castro

Edwin Castro grew up not-so-famous in Los Angeles and, as TMZ reported, was once an avid Boy Scout, achieving Eagle Scout, and an athlete in high school. He went to school in Crescenta Valley High School, not far from the Altadena Joe’s Service Center, where he would later buy his winning Powerball ticket. Growing up, he enjoyed a “wholesome family” upbringing that included summer fishing trips. He attended Woodbury University in Burbank, CA, where he studied architecture. Sources say Castro has always been a quiet young man with a “good heart.”

Tooling Around in His Vintage Porsche

Edwin Castro, the California man who won the incredibly large $2 billion Powerball jackpot, was recently spotted. Residents saw Castro grinning ear to ear from behind the wheel of his vintage Porsche worth $250,000. The 30-year-old was in casual attire, joggers and flip-flops, as he headed to his bank to make a cash withdrawal. After winning the largest lottery prize in the nation’s history, his bank account enjoyed a $997.6 million boost in funds. And locals see him from time to time, usually with a great car and always with a big smile.

He's Purchased Some High-Value Real Estate

In addition to his vintage Porsche, Castro invested some of his Powerball jackpot winnings in real estate. In fact, he purchased two multi-million-dollar homes in one month’s time. One was a $25.5 million Hollywood property with 13,500 square feet of space. And the other, a $4 million San Gabriel Mountains property, which is Castro’s hometown, has a saltwater swimming pool, a movie theater, and a garage spacious enough for as many as 12 vehicles.

He's Protected by 24/7 Security

When your lifestyle changes so drastically, it makes sense to boost your safety and security precautions. To protect himself and his luxury properties, Edwin Castro has hired security for round-the-clock surveillance. This includes three guards who, in rotation, protect him and his home 24/7. It’s a smart decision, too, considering how many other Powerball winner stories go wrong with theft, family drama, and scam targeting.

California Schools Win Big, Too

Edwin Castro may have been the record-breaking Powerball winner, but officials also say the California school system wins big. The California Lottery provides supplemental funding for the state’s public education across public schools and colleges. Castro told the media upon collecting his prize that he was gratified to hear that “as a result of my win, the CA school system greatly benefits, as well.”

Since his massive Powerball jackpot and lump sum take-home amount of $997.6 million, Castro hasn’t given any official interviews. But people are spotting him around town, running errands, and driving pretty cool cars. And, of course, he’s still smiling.
