There are and have been many debates both in personal and social circles, online social media sites, and all over the internet, on whether it is better to pick your lottery tickets yourself or to use the Quick Pick option that randomly generates your ticket numbers for you.

Are there actual advantages or disadvantages for either method? Is one better than the other? Which one should you use? That's a slightly difficult question to answer.

Different Experiences

There are many people who swear on their mother's grave that they have always used Quick Pick numbers and have never won anything on a lottery. However, the one time that they chose to pick their own numbers, they won! Of course, now, they swear that they will only pick their own numbers and never go back to using Quick Picks again.

On the other hand, there are just as many people who have said that they have always picked their own numbers and have never won anything on the lottery. But the one time they decided to use Quick Pick, they won! Of course, they will never pick their own numbers now and will only ever take the Quick Pick option.

So, is there really any difference between the two methods? Actually, no, although there are people who enjoy lottery statistics and playing with numbers who will say that Quick Picks have a greater chance of generating more duplicate number sequences, resulting in more duplicate tickets issued, meaning less money that will go around to the winners.

There's Always Some Crossover

The truth is that the chances of two or more people having the same numbers in the same order on their ticket is just as likely as picking the numbers yourself or if you go with the random number-generating Quick Pick.

Many people are the same age, have the same birthday, have the same number of relatives, children, and pets, anniversaries, lucky numbers, fingers, toes, and a myriad of other number-related items to use for their lottery number picks.

It is inevitable that some people will end up with the same number combinations whether that's through picking their own numbers or using Quick Pick or both.

This is something you can't avoid, regardless of whose expert advice you heed.

Everyone's an Expert

Players swear that picking your own numbers is the only way to go. Others swear that Quick Pick is the only way to go. And some swear neither method makes any difference at all and they win with both methods. So, what should you do?

The method you use to choose your lottery numbers is really a personal one. Do you have the time to choose your own numbers? Or are you in a hurry and want to keep it simple? Are you meticulous and need the right numbers or "lucky" numbers? Or are you a person who doesn't really care and simply wants a ticket to have a chance at winning regardless of who or what picks the numbers?

Since there really is no advantage one way or the other, it's not something you should spend time worrying about. You should use the method that is right for you.

Whether you pick your numbers yourself, have the computer pick them for you, or combine the methods, the only important thing to remember is that to have a chance at winning the lottery, you have to have a ticket.
