Don’t presume that once you win a Powerball prize, you have to stop playing. This Powerball winner story is all about a winner who keeps going for Powerball jackpots.

There are plenty of fun and exciting reasons to play Powerball. But don’t presume that once you’ve won, whether it’s a smaller Powerball prize or a more sizable amount, that you’re done. Remember, the odds reset with every game, making it an even playing field for everyone, including past Powerball winners. And in this Powerball winner story, one woman who got lucky winning $1 million in Powerball is still going for gold, playing to win the jackpot.

$1M Powerball Winners Sets New Sights on Jackpot Prizes

Joni Thompson tried her luck at playing Powerball, buying her ticket from the local Country Corner Supermarket in Michigan. She chose her series of numbers, learning later that she’d managed to match all but one. She told reporters she practically hyperventilated with excitement when she realized she’d won $1 million dollars. And even though she’d matched her numbers with the drawing announcement, she had her son scan the Powerball app to verify that she had, in fact, won.

Doing Good Deeds

More than a decade earlier, Thompson started a nonprofit called Angels of Action, intending to help serve meals to Mecosta County children on the weekends. And when she won her $1M Powerball prize, her organization was serving more than 1500 local kids. Thompson told reporters that she planned to use some of her winnings to boost her nonprofit, which now offers nine other kids programs, including tutoring, reading, and math.

Additionally, she and her grown son own Fru, a business that helps local entrepreneurs start and launch their own businesses. Thompson said she planned to help local businesses with some of her winnings, too. Citing the need to pay it forward, Thompson says she’s inspired to “lead with love.”

Feeling Lucky

Despite the million-dollar win, Thomspon’s not done playing Powerball. In fact, she’s more eager now than ever to keep trying her luck at a chance at a Powerball jackpot. She told the media that her friends and family were reaching out to her, asking her to buy their tickets for them, believing she was lucky. And Thompson admitted in January that she certainly was still feeling lucky.

Other Powerball Winners Winning Again

If Joni Thompson wins again, she won’t be the first Powerball player to win more than once. In fact, there have been several instances of Powerball players who won cash prizes twice or more. For example, Ben Baker scored $300,000 from two different Powerball tickets last March. Another player, “Joe B.” from Pueblo, CO, collected two different $1M Powerball prizes.

And in a stunning twist of fate, a man in Delaware and a woman in Virginia won Powerball twice when they accidentally bought two tickets with the same roster of numbers. Both Powerball players won two separate $1M Powerball prizes as a result of their accidental double-ticket purchases. Additionally, both Powerball players took home life-changing payouts, although non-jackpot prizes, within weeks. If anything, it should demonstrate that anyone can become a prize winner, even if you've already won. And in these cases, lucky lightning struck twice, entirely by accident!

Whether you manage to win $100 or $1M with your Powerball ticket, don’t let those wins keep you from playing again. Because the playing field levels with each drawing, and the official odds of winning reset, you could find yourself among the Powerball players who’ve won more than once! And winning $1M certainly hasn’t stopped Joni Thompson from playing, either. Let her enthusiasm for continued play be an inspiration for you to keep playing, as well. Moreover, it's proof that luck doesn't run out just because you manage to win a little.
