See what one Louisiana winner said he’d do if he won the Powerball jackpot. It’s crazy!

Have you ever spent time on YouTube just watching videos of field news reporter bloopers? Sometimes it’s a photobomb of someone in the background. Other times the reporter doesn’t see that oncoming truck about to splash gallons of mud puddle all over the morning traffic report. And they’re hilarious to watch.

Recently, a news reporter with KSLA News 12 in Shreveport, Louisiana, ventured out to talk to local convenience store patrons about playing Powerball. And one man offered an insanely crazy response to the question, “what would you do with the jackpot.” It’s not a family-friendly response either, and it left the reporter scrambling to overcome the awkwardness on live television.

Kori Johnson Set Out to Get Powerball Reactions

Kori Johnson, a reporter for KSLA News 12, set out to capture some public perspectives ahead of the big Powerball drawing that was scheduled the next day. And she knew one of the most common places Powerball players would purchase their tickets were the convenience stores. She and her crew chose a popular gas station, busy with patrons coming and going. Johnson started stopping Shreveport residents to ask them what they’d do if they won the lottery.

The Man in the Red Shirt Looks Like a Great Interview Prospect

Johnson meanders inside and spots an ideal interview candidate. She didn’t get his name, but because he was wearing a red tee-shirt, we’ll call him red tee-shirt guy. As he approaches the counter, Johnson asks him, “you’ve bought your ticket, so what are you going to do with that money if you win?” The red tee-shirt man said his first order of business would definitely be to “get a supercharged Mustang with dual exhaust.” There’s not much that seems alarming about that response. Only, the red tee-shirt man isn’t done sharing how he’d spend his newfound wealth should his numbers be the jackpot winning numbers.

Red Tee-Shirt Man Admits He’d Do Something Illegal

If you watch the interview online directly and you’re not paying attention to the red tee-shirt man’s response, you might miss it. But right after he tells reporter Kori Johnson about his plans to buy a supercharged Ford Mustang, he goes on to also say he’d buy “about five kilos of cocaine.” Wait, what? Yes, he did just say that on live television. And he’s now the brunt of hilarious tweets and memes for being brutally honest in front of the world.

The Reporter Handles the Awkward Response with Grace

Kori Johnson was undoubtedly floored at the response she got from the red tee-shirt man. But she pivoted well and tried to smooth over the on-camera faux-pas. She immediately smiled and said, “ok, so you like cars, you like cars,” and turned back to the camera and changed the subject quickly to talk about not knowing what she’d do with all that Powerball jackpot herself. She even ended her report by saying she might have to “pray on it for a day” before sending the transmission back to the in-studio news anchors.

The Moral of This Live Interview Story

The moral of this story might be one key lesson. Be careful about what you say or admit to on live television. It can be exhilarating to find yourself the subject of a live news stream. But don’t forget that on the other side of that camera lens is an entire community of viewers. You wouldn't want to be caught off guard and say anything you probably wouldn’t say to your own mother.

So, what would you do with a Powerball jackpot if you won? Would it differ from what you’d admit on live television? Just remember to know if the cameras are rolling before you agree to an interview. And get out there and play if you really want a shot at the jackpot!
