Discover how Power Play multiplies your Powerball winnings by up to 10X. This 2025 guide breaks down everything Powerball players need to know before their next ticket purchase.

Thinking about Powerball play in 2025? You’re not alone. With jackpots regularly soaring into the hundreds of millions, players across the US are giving the game a shot. And many are doubling down with Powerball multipliers. If you’ve ever looked at your ticket and wondered what the “Power Play” option really means, this blog’s for you.

What Are Powerball Multipliers?

Powerball multipliers are bonus features that can increase non-jackpot winnings. The most popular one? Power Play. It’s an optional add-on that multiplies the value of your non-jackpot prizes by 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or even 10x, depending on the draw.

Sounds simple, right? But there are a few important details to know.

How Power Play Works

When you play Powerball, you’ll have the option (when you buy your tickets) to add Power Play for an extra $1 per play. This doesn’t change your base numbers. It simply increases the payout if you win one of the non-jackpot prizes.

Before each drawing, the lottery selects a random Power Play multiplier (from a pool of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, and 10x when the Powerball jackpot is below $150 million.) Whatever number is drawn, that’s the multiplier applied to most non-jackpot wins that night.

For example, a $50,000 prize could become $100,000, $150,000, or more depending on the multiplier drawn for that game. Lower-tier prizes like $7 or $4 can also multiply, giving you up to $70 or $40, respectively, with the right Power Play. The only exception is the $1 million prize for matching five white balls, which is capped at $2 million no matter the multiplier. Still, it’s a huge increase for just one extra dollar.

What About the 10x Multiplier?

The 10x Power Play is only in play when the jackpot is below $150 million. When jackpots are lower, it’s a good time to take advantage of potentially higher multipliers on smaller prizes. For example, a $50,000 win could turn into $500,000 with a lucky 10x multiplier in effect.

Should You Add Power Play?

If you're gunning for the Powerball jackpot, the multiplier won't matter. It doesn’t apply to the jackpot prize. But if you’re aiming for those Match 4 or Match 5 wins (and let’s be honest, those are still life-changing), Power Play can be a great value.

Think of it this way:

  • $1 extra could turn a $100 win into $500
  • $1 extra could turn $50,000 into $250,000 or more

If you’re already spending $2 per ticket, why not go all-in for $3 and play Powerball with a real shot at boosting your return?

What If You're a Powerball Winner?

If you match numbers and score a prize (besides the jackpot), your Power Play add-on kicks in automatically. That means bigger prizes without doing anything extra, just for selecting Power Play at the time of purchase.

And remember, even second-tier winners benefit big. A $1 million win becomes $2 million instantly with Power Play.

So, if you're going to become a Powerball winner in 2025, you might as well make the most of it.
